Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) and Health Education

At St Wilfrid’s, Relationships and Sex Education (RSE) is an important part of how we help children grow and flourish. As a Catholic school, we aim to educate the whole child, academically, emotionally, socially, morally, and spiritually.

RSE supports children in learning how to build healthy friendships, understand their feelings, respect others, and recognise their own God-given dignity. It is taught in a way that is rooted in the values and teachings of the Catholic Church, while being sensitive to the world our children are growing up in today.

Our approach to RSE is caring, positive, and age-appropriate. We aim to ensure that children feel safe, supported, and confident as they learn.

At St Wilfrid’s, Relationships and Sex Education is delivered through weekly Personal Development Afternoons, where children explore RSE and PSHE themes in a thoughtful and supportive way, making clear links to their own lives and experiences. These afternoons also include Philosophy for Children (P4C), Circle Time, and Celebration of the Word, helping children to reflect, share ideas, and grow spiritually and emotionally.

We work closely with parents and carers, recognising that they are the first and most important educators of their children. We aim to keep families informed and involved, and we welcome open, respectful dialogue at all times.

RSHE (Relationship Sex and Health Education) is delivered using the Catholic Programme, Life to the Full plus by Ten:Ten. This programme ensures that children receive an RSHE Curriculum that fully meets our statutory obligations as defined by the DfE.

Life to the Full Plus is a fully-resourced RHE / RSE programme, integrated with additional resources to fully cover all additional PSHE / Health and Well-Being criteria
